Mi-8 ?
Unit: unknown
Serial: 34

An unidentified Russian Army Aviation Mi-8 helicopter, as seen during the operations in Tajikistan. Many of the Russian Air Force units that participated in the wars on Caucasus, and in Tajikistan, in the early 1990s, were formerly deployed in Eastern Europe. During their pull-back into Russia, in the period 1991-1994, some were disbanded while others changed designations; some units were deployed in local wars only in elements. For this reason it is often impossible to recognize which units were deployed to which of the emergencies in that part of the World at which time - even if the basic composition of Russian Air Force and Russian Army Aviation units in the Caucasus Military Region is known. For example, the North Caucasian Military district (MD) included the 11th and 487 OVP, the later of which was based at Budjonovsk, as well as the 366 OBVP. All these units were equipped with a mix of up to 40 Mi-8s and Mi-24s, and came under command of the 58 Army, with HQs in Vladikavkaz. The 326 OVE and 55 OVP - equipped with a mix of Mi-8s and Mi-24s - as well as the 325 OVP, equipped with Mi-6s and Mi-26s, came under command of the 67 Army Corps, with HQs in Krasnodar.
