F-105D-10-RE "Damn You Charlie Brown!"
Unit: 44th TFS, 388th TFW, USAF
Serial: 00434 (60-0434)

Korat RTAFB, Thailand, Summer 1967.

Strike cameras, ECM antennas and pods were standard on most F-105s by mid-1967. 60-0434 was one of fifteen Thunderchiefs officially shot down by MiG-21s, this jet being hit from behind by an 'Atoll' missile in an unexpected dive attack by two VPAF fighters on 9 October 1967. Maj James Clements was approaching his Quang Hein railway marshalling yard target at 15,000 ft when his fighter was hit, forcing him to eject into captivity.

F-105D-10-RE "Miss T"
Unit: 44th TFS, 388th TFW, USAF
Serial: 00497 (60-0497)

Korat RTAFB, Thailand, June 1967.

60-0497 was being flown by Maj 'Mo' Seaver (who later commanded the 347th TFW, flying the F-111) on 13 May 1967 when he shot down a MiG-17 with 20 mm cannon fire during a 90-second engagement. Six months later it was one of four F-105s lost on 18 November in an Iron Hand attack on the MiG base at Phuc Yen. Hit by a MiG-21's 'Atoll' missile, the Thunderchief took Lt Col William Reed back as far as Laos, where he ejected and was rescued near Pathet Lao troops. Here, the aircraft is seen fitted with a twin-Sidewinder launcher. Its MiG kill marking appeared on the left side of the forward fuselage.

F-105D-15-RE
Unit: 357th TFS, 355th TFW, USAF
Serial: 61-0042

Takhli RTAFB, Thailand, September 1966.

The 357th TFS was assigned PCS to the 355th TFW from January 1965 after previous TDYs to Korat and Takhli. This aircraft has the 'reverse camouflage' applied to about a quarter of F-l05s in late 1965, areas of FS 30219 Tan and FS 34012 Green being reversed from the standard pattern applied to most Thunderchiefs. 61-0042 was brought down by an 85 mm AAA shell while attacking the Vu Chua railway marshalling yard on 5 July 1967 - it was the third 355th TFW F-105 lost to AAA within the space of four minutes near Kep airfield on this date. Maj Ward Dodge ejected but died in prison about a week later from unknown causes. Between 17-31 May 1967, a period when mistreatment of prisoners was known to be particularly brutal, eight of the 21 airmen taken POW in that time died in unexplained circumstances.
