F-4E "War Lover" | Unit: 4th TFW, USAF Serial: 040/SJ (70-306) 34th TFS, 388th TFW. Korat AFB, Thailand, 1972.
Mark Mier said: This is E model from Seymour-Johnson AFB in North Carolina. Their Phantoms did do duty in Vietnam but were classified under a different tail code. This Phantom is still stateside as it still has tailcode 'SJ'. It's markings also identify it as the Wing commander's aircraft with the stripes of all four of the wings Fighter Squadrons. The Blue stripe represents the 334th FS, Green 335th, Yellow 336th, and Red 337th. The palette is also not marked correctly. This aircraft is part of the 4th TFW and was maintained alternately by all four of the TFS's. If you really wanted to be authentic, I would say this aircraft was 'post' Vietnam because of it's tail code and the way it was painted. During Vietnam tailcodes were predominately all white where as this tailcode is Black block lettering with a white background. I would say this Aircraft was flying around the same time I was attached to the wing....1983 to about 1986 or 1987.
