H8K1 Type 2, Model 1-1 | Unit: Yokohama Kaigun Kokutai Serial: Y-71 The first prototype. Attached to the Yokohama Naval Air Corps, this H8K1 was one of two which carried out a long-range bombing attack on Hawaii, March 1942.

H8K2 | Unit: Yokosuka Chinjufu Kokutai (Yokosuka Naval District Aviation Group) Serial: YokoChin-73 Yokosuka Naval Base, Early 1944. The white letter written down beside Canopy is 'Akitsu'. 'Akitsu (Akitsushima)' is the place name written down in the Japanese myth.

H8K2-L "Shikishima" | Unit: Yokosuka Chinjufu Kokutai (Yokosuka Naval District Aviation Group) Serial: YokoChin-74 Yokosuka Naval Base, early 1944. The white letter written down beside Canopy is 'Shikishima'. 'Shikishima' is the place name written down in the Japanese myth. This particular example is the prototype H8K1 after transport modification. The same unit also operated H6K2-Ls and H6K4-Ks during 1944-1945.

H8K2 Type 2, Model 2-2 | Unit: 901st Kokutai Serial: KEA-03 Eastern Pacific Ocean Area, October 1943. 901st Kokutai home base is Chitose Air Base (Hokkaido, Japan). 901st Kokutai dispatched Platoon to Seletar (Singapore), Manado (Indonesia), Davao (Philippines), Takao (Taiwan) and Saint Jacques (Vietnam).

H8K2 (type 2, model 12) | Unit: Takuma kokutai Serial: T-31 Takuma Naval Air Station, Kagawa Prefecture, 1944. This flying boat is displaying now in JMSDF Kanoya Naval Air Base Memorial Museum, Japan. This is Type-2 Model 12 (H8K2). It carries the markings of the 2nd unit, Kikusui of the 5th fleet included. In the Spring of 1945, the Takuma-ku was recreated as the only unit operating heavy flying boats with the code 'T' as the special unit Mizugokoro retained the code Taku.
