Spitfire PR.Mk.XI
Unit: 2./Versuchsverband Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe OKL
Serial: T9+BB

This aircraft was captured on 24th of June 1943 and assigned to the 2./Versuchstelle fuer Hohenfluge (2./altitude flights testpoint) and then to the 2./Versuchverband ObdL (2.test association of ObdL - Luftwaffe High Command). The machine retained its original PRU Blue. Some resources refer that the code was repeated under the wings. A captured Spitfire PR.IX was used in a special Luftwaffe unit known as 'Rosarius's circus'. The 2./Versuchverband ObdL unit demonstrated captured Allied planes to the Luftwaffe personnel to make them familiar with their construction and capabilities. This Spitfire retained the PRU Blue color on the upper surfaces, but the bottom surfaces and the entire tail were painted in bright yellow. This bright painting plus enormous size of crosses and swastikas were supposed to prevent accidental attack by own fighters.
