Pilot - Maj.Pierce Winningham McKennon. He flew this Thunderbolt from March 1943. He scored 3 victories in Thunderbolts before the Group was re-equipped with Mustangs in March 1944.

Maj.McKennon joined 335th FS 22nd February 1943. 'A' Flight CO 22nd March 1944, Squadron Operational Officer 18th April 1944, Squadron CO 18th August 1944. Left 21st September 1945 went to 368th FG.

This was one of the leading units in the Mediterranean theatre, having fought its way through North Africa, Sicily and Italy. During 1944 it received the Thunderbolt and was used not only for hounding German forces in Italy from its main base at Pisa, but also for escorting B-24 bombers on long range missions as far as Berlin itself.

This was Blakeslee's assigned aircraft in September 1943. Standard white ETO recognition bands on nose, vertical and horizontal tail surfaces. All Blakeslee's aircraft were coded WD-C, none carried any personal markings. Shot up in this machine 7/1/44, made forced landing at Mansion. Aircraft previously assigned as WD-E to Maj. Roy Evans.

Donald James Mathew Blakeslee, Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Joined 335th FS as CO 29/9/42, with rank of captain. He became major 12/1/43. Left squadron 19/5/43, became 4th Group Executive and Operations Officer and Lt.Col. on this date. Became Col. 8/3/44. Group CO from 1/1/44.
