Unit: 336th FS, 4th FG, 8th AF, USAAF
Serial: VF-D (41-6192)

Pilot - 1st.Lt.Woodrow F.Sooman 'Woody', later 1943 and early 1944. Originally 334th FS aircraft. OD/NG camouflage with white nose and tail bands.

Sooman joined 336th FS Autumn 1943 until 18th March 1944 when his P-51 developed a glycol leak near Frankfurt, Germany and he failed to reach home. Became POW.

Serial: 41-6197 ?

One of the first P-47C's received by 4th FG. The group's P-47's did't carry code letters until April 1943 and were camouflaged in the standard USAAF Olive Drab and Neutral Grey colour scheme. Note: serial number is provisional.

Pilot - Lt.Col.James A.Clark Jr. Joined 334th FS on 15th September 1943, then joined HQ Squadron. Squadron Operations Officer 22nd May 1943, 'C' Flight CO 2nd June 1943, 'B' Flight CO 11th July 1934, 'A' Flight CO 10th September 1943. Squadron CO 1st March 1944. This aircraft was assigned to Clark and Capt.Alexander Rafalovich during March/April 1943.

Serial: 04, QP-M (41-6204)

Pilot - Capt. Richard D McMinn, Salt Lake City. 4th FG P-47s originally carried the 'last two' of the serial number for identification. '04' was later to become QP-M. At some stage, the rear fuselage was repainted and was lost with Capt. McMinn on 15 April 1943. McMinn was hit by a FW.190 and crashed into the North Sea 20 miles East of Felixtowe. Pilot was killed in action.

Pilot - CO of 56th FG Col.Hubert Zemke ('Hub', 20 victories). Horsham St.Faith, June 1943. Note: the aircraft named 'Moi Tovarisch' (Russian for 'My comrade'). Zemke taught Soviet pilots how to fly the Lend-Lease P-40 Tomahawk in 1941, before being assigned as CO of the 56th FG. He scored his first three kills in this aircraft.
