IK-3

Serial: 2158 (br.9)

Pilot - Potporucnik Eduard Banfic. Belgrade-Zemun, Yugoslavia (now Serbia & Montenegro), April 1941.

Early IK-3s carried an inscription with the aircraft type (I.K.-3), and a single-digit production number (BR.x) underneath it applied on the rudder in black. Later, only the production number, or c/n, was applied. A small four digit number was also applied in black on the rear lower fuselage side. That was the Vojnoevidencijski broj - VE-BR, or air force registration number. Later in 1939 the VE-BR serial began to be applied on the tail.

Initially, both c/n and VE-BR were correlative to the construction series (br.1 - 2151, br.2 - 2152, etc... ), but after the loss of IK-3 br.6, the VE-BRs were revised during regular overhauls at the Rogozarski factory and the planes were renumbered. Thus, the entire series after br.6 had the last digit of their VE-BR moved one number forward and br.7 became 2156 instead of 2157.

The IK-3s serials ran as follows:
br.1 - 2151
br.2 - 2152
br.3 - 2153
br.4 - 2154
br.5 - 2155
br.6 - 2156 (lost on September 3, 1940)
br.7 - 2157, changed to 2156
br.8 - 2158, changed to 2157
br.9 - 2159, changed to 2158
br.10 - 2160, changed to 2159
br.11 - 2161, changed to 2160
br.12 - 2162, changed to 2161
br.13 - 2163, changed to 2162
