This aircraft was tested at Rockcliffe, Ontario in one of the 12 Communications Squadron's wartime roles at the base, on November 26th, 1941. It was crashed when piloted by RCAF Flight Lieutenant Robert Bruce Middleton. He forced landed the aircraft and slightly injured. It was later discovered that the Airacobra's engine had tailed because of a fuel stoppage. The aircraft was a complete write-off and the crash sealed the type's late in the RCAF.
