The first prototype. First flew on 1st April 1944. All-wood light-weight fighter made from Sitka spruce, pattern after racers of the 1930's. Known as 'Tri-4' after an informal USAAF requirement for '400hp, 4000lbs., 400mph.' Tested during 1944, it was plagued by noise and vibration, and inferior performance.
