Avenger Mk.I
Unit: 848 NAS, FAA
Serial: 376/X (JZ114)

HMS Formidable in August of 1945. This Squadron's aircraft attacked Japanese targets on Okinawa, Formosa (Taiwan), and the Japanese home Islands in the last summer of World War II. Aircraft assigned to the British Pacific Fleet wore Blue and White roundels with bars on the fuselage, upper port wing, and lower starboard wing. These markings prevented US forces from confusion the British aircraft for Japanese.

Summer 1944. This aircraft operated from the escort carrier D09 HMS Trumpeter in the North Atlantic. The Avenger was finished in the FAA camouflage of Extra Dark Sea Grey (FS36099) and Dark Slate Grey (FS34096) on the uppersurfaces, with Sky (FS34424) on the undersurfaces. The British called TBF/TBM the Tarpon from April of 1943 until January of 1944, when the name was changed to its American name of Avenger.

According this source: Hawkinge, June 1944. This unit was used 'to clean' the waters of the English Channel during the landing (it means that they were used to patrol the Channel during the D-Day landings).
