Barracuda TB.Mk.II | Unit: 812 NAS, FAA Serial: 374/A (PM949) HMS Vengeance, August 1945. This unit arrived too late to take part in the offensive missions against Japan.
Note the white strap allowing the emergency dinghy to be dropped. This 'tinkering' adopted on all Barracudas, was invented by an observer that, after three forced splashdowns, had noted that every time, the door of the compartment had been stuck following the impact. The strap was joined to the cockpit and, just before the splashdown, the observer pulled it over to open the compartment and to drop the rowboat. This system worked so well that Fairey ended up using it in the series. In any case, it allowed many human lives to be saved. R71 HMS Vengeance
