Serial: 88 (41-31962)

Poretta, Corsica, October 1944. The first a/c of this model delivered to this unit. It survived the war and flew 175 combat sorties. This model has armored pilot's cockpit, therefore it got the name 'Old Iron Sides'.

Unit: 432nd BS, 17th BG, USAAF
Serial: 68 (42-43308)

Villacidro, Sardinia, July 1944. The a/c served with this unit from 22 January 1944 to 1 January 1945 when it was shot down by ground fire. It was piloted by 1st Lt.Joseph T.Shoeps. The a/c flew over 100 combat sorties.

On this image the a/c depicted with 65 missions markings; in this time its crew was: pilot - 1st Lt.R.W.Childers, navigator 1st Lt.John D. Venglar (his name marked on the nose). The aircraft named in honour of New York Central Railway workers who donated the money to built this airplane.
