Liberator GR.Mk.I
Unit: 120 Sqn, Coastal Command RAF
Serial: H (AM929)

Liberator GR.I (AM929) 'H' of 120 Sqn RAF Coastal Command, based in 1942 at RAF Ballykelly in Northern Ireland. The aeroplane was the last in the batch of twenty LB-30B/B-24A machines ordered by the USMC (and sold to the British). In January 1942 the aeroplane was handed over to Scottish Aviation for conversion to the CC standard. As opposed to the earlier ten aircraft, AM929 was fitted with the improved ASV.Mk.II radar that did not require the huge aerial masts on the spine. During its service life of 203 hrs 45 mm. in 120 Sqn the aeroplane truly earned the reputation of a U-boat killer: five destroyed (U-597, U-661, U-132, U-194 and U-540), three damaged and 27 detections of hiding U-boats.
