Boiling Field AFB, October 1941. This aircraft was seize from RAF batch and used as transport. It still wore night RAF camouflage, but RAF markings were overpainted. Note: USA flags on back and fuselage sides denote neutral markings (US still not involved into war)

The aircraft is a Consolidated B-24D Liberator bomber which underwent modifications to serve as a escort fighter for protection of bomber streams over Europe in 1942. This machine was referred to as XB-41 and represents the first and only example tested.
