Do.215
Unit: Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L.
Serial: T5+AC (ex D-ACAJ)

Utti, Finland, 11th July 1941. Presumably finished in RLM70/71/65. The machine carries a newly-applied broad yellow fuselage band and wingtips (above and below). What is not readily apparent is the lack of crosses above the wing (possibly once at the outer extremities of the wing-now painted over by yellow) and the retention of the civilian registration D-ACAJ; D-A on the port wing, CAJ on the starboard. These letters start and finish just inboard of the yellow wingtips. Whether this registration was also carried below the wings is not known for certain. The probability is that it was. There is also a faint possibility that the unit emblem was carried on the nose.

Do.215B-1
Unit: Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L.
Serial: T5+AD

Dorniers Do.215B, originally developed as export bomber versions derived from Do.17 Type, were used after delivery to the Luftwaffe (and also to Hungarian Air Force) to long-distance reconnaissance. The depicted Do.215B-1 served in 1941 in special recon unit subordinated directly to the Luftwaffe Command, at Finland bases together with versions Do.215B-4 and some other machines. Its camouflage corresponded to the Luftwaffe standard in this time. Upper and lateral surfaces were covered with fields of dark-green and blackish-green colours divided with fractional lines, the bottom surfaces had light blueish-grey colour. At the depicted plane T5+AD the usage of yellow identification band at place of national marking is interesting (the similar one was painted on Do.215B-1 T5+AC but the repetition of the last letter on wing from bottom was missing). The other Do.215B of this unit had already the yellow band as far as before their tail flats.

Do.215B-3
Unit: 3(F)/Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L.
Serial: L2+CS

This Do.215B still retained the codes of 8/LG 2 after it becomes the 3(F)/Aufkl. Gr/Ob.dl, several of its machines received a dark green mottle to the under surfaces in the field. This aircraft was shot down on August 11th, 1941 at the Eastern Front.
