On 16th March 1943 Flight Lieutenant Bill Newton received the VC (Victoria Cross) when he was shot down over Salamaua, escaped the sinking Boston and was captured and executed by the Japanese at Lae.

Serial: DU-Q (A28-15, AL366)

Delivered in April of 1942. Served with 22 Sqn. Claimed to have damaged a submarine in August 1942 off Tuggerah, NSW. This claim was dismissed after the war after further investigation. This aircraft initially served with 18 NEI Sqn. Belly Landing on 18th September 1943 at Rockhampton QLD. Camouflage: Dark Green and Dark Earth upper surfaces with Medium Sea Grey lower surfaces.

Serial: DU-P (A28-60, ex 43-21545)

New Guinea. This aircraft was assigned to unit on 7th July 1944, damaged during Japanese air raid on 22nd November 1944 and eventually converted to components.
