He.51B-1
Unit: 3.J/88, Condor Legion
Serial: 2-98

Unknown location, 1937?. From February 1937, Legion Condor's He 51s gave up bomber escort missions as they had proved very vulnerable in combat against the enemy Soviet-built fighters. Wearing a camouflage scheme better adapted to their new ground-attack role, the ying and yang symbol on this aircraft was the personal emblem of Oblt. Kurt Strumpell of 3.J/88. (Camouflage: RLM62 Grun over the original RLM63 Hellgrau finish).
