RAF Station Amman, Transjordan. This is 166th production Wellesley Mk.I. The colour scheme and markings are applicable to 1938. The squadron motto: 'I spread my wings and keep my promises' is particularly apt in view of the remarkably high aspect-ratio (8.8) of mainplane. N.B.: Vokes/carburetor air/cleaner and sand filter under engine cowling was applicable of 1940-1941 East Africa Campaign.

This plane belong to commander of A-flight in 223rd RAF Squadron, F/Lt James Pelly-Fry. In June 1940 squadron was based on Summit AFB in Sudan. First combat mission was attack against the Gura airfield on 11th June 1940. Later this squadron was re-based into Egypt, and in December 1941 rearmed with Martin Baltimore.

The first of the specially converted Wellesley (Vickers Type 292) of the Long-Range Development Unit (LRDU) of the Royal Air Force - flown by Squadron Leader R.Kellett in the World-Record Long Distance Flight from Egypt to Australia - powered by a 1010 hp Bristol Pegasus XXII radial engine.
