Phonix D.I
Unit: Flik 40P
Serial: P (128.11)

This Phönix fighter served with Fliks 4D and 30J before it ended its career as a photo recon plane with Flik 40P at the Piave front. P means Photo-Aufklärungs-Flik (photo reconnaissance Flik). Such a Flik was composed either solely of photo-reconnaissance fighters such as Fliks 31P, 40P,46P or a mix of fighter and two-seater aircraft, such as Flik 39P. Complement same as Rb Fliks (ReihenBild - strip photo - Fliks).

Phonix D.I
Unit: Flik 12Rb
Serial: 328.22

This Phonix D.I 328.22 was assigned to Flik 12 Rb in July 1918. Rb means Reihenbild-Flik, an recon unit equipped with aircraft fitted with automatic cameras for taking strip photos (=Reihenbild) or mosaic photos. The chevron on the fuselage side is the unit marking and, in this special case, has been extended upwards to the spine of the fuselage. The chevron was probably not red white red as shown here but black white black. The aircraft crashed the same month it arrived at Flik 12 and was send to Flep 2 for repair.
