In 1916. The aircraft was sometimes called the star-strutter due to the unusual configuration of the struts. This aircraft didn't have 'bays' in the conventional use of the term since all the struts more or less connected in the middle. Also of note, the Schwarzlose machine gun was carried in the small gondola atop the wing as the Germans didn't want to share the interruptor device with the Austrians at this point in the war. That would have allowed the machine gun to be fired through the propeller arc.
