The DH.4 built in the US was known as 'liberty plane' of which 4846 examples were build. this particular DH.4B served in the 168th Aero squadron of the American expeditionary force in France. The Americans found the DH.4 a tricky plane to land and disliked the fatal position of the fuel-tank, between the pilot and the observer.
