The day of 25th of May, 1925 - the day of first landing of Junkers F.13 freight
aircraft presented by former Soviet Union to Mongolia, at the Council's Height is
considered as the foundation day of Mongolian Air Force. Sadly no any information about
markings to this period.

Several sources report that since 1936 the Mongolian markings were Red Soviet stars
on wings and red 'zoyombo' (Mongolian national insignia) on the tail. However photo of Il-2
of 1940-1950s shows Yellow 'zoyombo' in the Red square painted only tail and fuselage.
Note: colour profile of Mongolian I-16 fighter shows Red tail 'zoyombo', but it based on
the verbal description.

Mongolian People's Air Force
1966 to 1992

During the 'jet period' Mongolian markings were Red Soviet stars on wings and red
'zoyombo' on the tail.

After Mongolian politic course changed in 1992, the markings were changed too. They
become Red Starts with Yellow borders and Yellow 'zoyombo' on the wings and Red 'zoyombo'
on the tailfin (on the helicopters only stars markings). Note: some photos show MiG-21
without any wings markings most probably during repainting process.
