Wings and Fuselage

Fin Flash

The first national insignia carried was a version of the national flag, displayed as a fin flash. This marking featured three white elephants under a parasol, representing the monarchy, standing on five white steps, representing the five First Commandments of Buddhism. The main marking was a roundel version of the national flag - displayed on the wings and fuselage sides. No service titles were carried.

Example: North American T-28 Trojan/Fennec

Lao People's Liberation Army AF

1975 to Present

Wings and Fuselage

Variant

Fin Flash

With the communist take-over in 1975, the national markings were changed to a representation of the new national flag. The main marking is displayed on the fuselage sides of the helicopters, and in the standard six positions on aircraft. The national flag is also carried as a fin flash - some MiGs carry a lonzenge shaped version, slanted to the rear. Aircraft do not carry service titles.

Example: North American T-28 Trojan/Fennec
Example: MiG MiG-21/J-7 Fishbed/Mongol

Rare variant (late of 1970s)

Some aircraft in the late of 1970s (e.g. T-28) carried very rare variant of the main markings

Example: North American T-28 Trojan/Fennec
