Originally designated Audacious, she was finally launched as Eagle in March 1946. She was commissioned in October 1951. In 1952 she took part in the first large NATO naval exercise, Exercise Mainbrace. In 1956 she took part in Suez Crisis. During 1956-1957 angled flight deck was fitted. During 1959-1964 was has extensively refitted to operate modern aircraft like Blackburn Buccaneer, de Havilland Sea Vixen, Supermarine Scimitar and Fairey Gannet aircraft. In 1972 she was decommissioned. In 1978 she was sold for scrap.
