  • In 1982 she was launched at Nikolayev, Black Sea.
  • In December 1987 she was commissioned to the Northern Fleet.
  • In July-December 1988 she operated in the Mediterranean Sea then sailed to Severomorsk, Barents Sea.
  • In 1989-1990 she actively served with Northern Fleet.
  • In October 1990 she was renamed "Admiral Gorshkov".

  • In 1999 she was towed to Severodvinks for modernization for Indian Navy.
  • In 2000 after years of negotiations, Russia and India signed a deal for the sale.
  • In December 2008 after complete modernization and refurbishing she was officially commissioned to the Indian Navy, however she still under construction yet. Permanent problems with treaty obligations are impeding process.
  • It is planing she will began active duties in 2011-2012.
