  • She was laid down as the high-speed oiler Takasaki in 1934, but finished in January 1940 as light aircraft carrier.
  • She was commissioned in January 1941.
  • In December, 1941 she participated in the attack on the Philippine Islands
  • In January, 1942 she supported invasion of the Dutch East Indies.
  • In June, 1942 she took part in the Battle of Midway with Support Fleet and did not engage American carriers directly.
  • In October, 1942 she took part in the Battle of Santa Cruz. A bomber from the USS Enterprise disables the Flight deck of the Zuiho.
  • In January-February 1943 she took part in the evacuation of Guadalcanal.
  • In February 1944 she participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
  • On 24-25 October 1944 she participated Battle of Leyte Gulf. She was damaged by USN aviation and sank.
