  • In December 1941 she took part in Pearl Harbour attack.
  • In January 1942 she took part in attack on Rabaul.
  • During the Indian Ocean raid of March 1942 she raiding Colombo.
  • During Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942 she took part in sank of British carrier Hermes, two cruisers and USS Lexington, but was herself damaged by USS Yorktown aviation.
  • In 1942 she took part in the battle of the Eastern Solomons where damaged USS Enterprise and battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, where sank USS Hornet but Shokaku was seriously damaged by dive bombers.
  • In 1943 she was assigned to a counter-attack against the Aleutian Islands. On June 19th, 1944 during the Battle of the Philippine Sea she was hit by several torpedoes from the US submarine Cavalla and sank, killing 1272 men.
