Originally she was named Crown Point, in 1944 renamed Leyte. In 1950 she was included a demonstration of airpower over Beirut, Lebanon, 13 August, supporting the Middle East against Communist pressure. From October through January 1951 she took part in the Korean War, her aircraft flew 3933 sorties against the North Koreans troops, supplies, transportation, and communications.
