Originally she was built as Rio de la Plata merchant ship. On October 2nd, 1942 she was transferred to Royal Navy under Lend-Lease, but immediately returned on October 4th. She was served as a training ship in Chesapeake Bay and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She was reclassified ACV-30 in August 1942, and CVE-30 in July 1943. She was decommissioned at New York on 15 March 1946. She was sold into merchant service in January 1947 as Fairsea. Due to a lack of spare parts she was sold for scrap in Italy in 1969.
