She was commissioned in January 1944. In May-June 1944 she operated in southwest Pacific to reduce Japanese submarine interference with the invasion of the Marianas. In July-August 1944 she provided air support and cover for the Marianas operation. In September 1944 supported antisubmarine protection and search planes for the Peleliu invasion. In October 1944 she helped to sank I-177 Japanese submarine. From November 1944 to January 1945 she provided air support for the developing campaign in the Philippines. In February-April 1945 she repaired at San Diego, USA. In April-May 1945 she supported the invasion to Okinawa. In August-September 1945 she the occupation of Hokkaido and northern Honshu.During this period aircraft from the ship discovered many Japanese prison camps. In the end of 1945 to early 1946 she took part in Operation "Magic Carpet" duty, to return homeward-bound servicemen from Japan. In July 1946 she was decommissioned in reserve. In June 1955 she was reclassified CVHE-75. In May 1959 she was reclassified AKV-25. In March 1960 she was sold for scrap.
